Da But culture (Neolithic, about 7000-5000 B.P). The sites of Da But culture was discoveried from 1926-1927, with the excavation of Da But, Vinh Loc district, Thanh Hoa province by E.Patte. Until now, 20 sites were found, excavated and studied, the most of them distributed in Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh provinces. The important characteristics are stone artifact and pottery. Stone artifact was made of pebble, include partly polished axes, hoes, chisels, saws, mortar, pestle, alw, bracelet with whell-shape, stone net-sinker and burned clay. Pottery is very coarse, mixed a lot of sand and gravel, the mouth is straight or cupped, deracoted outside surface. Pottery seems almost not changed about shape, type, material and decoration. Da But culture is one of earliest centre of pottery in Vietnam.
